Meet Susan J Cavan
Background
Susan J Cavan brings decades of experience with short- and long-term content creation and digital storytelling as well as thought leadership and policy analysis to all her work. Most recently, she was the Lead Content Manager at a California clean energy nonprofit, CALSTART, where she led the editorial, internal, corporate, and external (media) communications teams and launched the exploration of AI for content enhancement and new forms of engagement.
With expertise in Russian political affairs, Susan spent ten-plus years as a researcher and analyst, publishing blogs and journal articles and teaching analytical writing before moving into the deputy director role at the Institute for the Study of Conflict, Ideology & Policy at Boston University, where she supervised the research team and its publications, oversaw strategic and development communications, coordinated the military fellows programs, and led grant management and event planning. After completing her PhD in political science, Susan moved on to the Atlantic Council as editor and publications manager, leading strategic communications as editorial manager for the Annual Report. Susan pursued the mission of creating a cleaner environment with persuasive strategic content in her role as Lead Content Manager at CALSTART.
Susan Cavan received her AB and Certificate of Slavic Studies from Boston College, an MA in International Relations, an MA in Political Science, and a PhD in Political Science (IR and political theory) from Boston University. In addition to writing and editing Perspective, NIS Observed, and ISCIP Analyst at Boston University, she independently published the Eurasia Analyst from 2012-2018.
